Marsh Infant and Nursery School

Geography

At Marsh Infant and Nursery School, the intent of our geography curriculum is to enable all children to develop fascination and curiosity about people and places. To be excited to learn about the world we live in. We aim to help them to make sense of the world round them and their place within it. The Marsh curriculum will support children’s knowledge and understanding of human geography and gain an appreciation of daily life in their own community, country and beyond. We aim to inspire children to develop a growing knowledge and understanding of the relationships and connections of people and places. We will enable our children to develop a sense of responsibility for the environment and a respectful understanding of other cultures. Using the local environment, they will learn important geographical skills such as enquiry, map skills and fieldwork. Children will use the school grounds and local walks to the nature reserve for Forest School sessions and begin to develop an understanding of the local area, wider world, weather and seasons. Through exploration and collaborative learning, they develop skills for life in observing, communicating and comparing what they learn about the world around them.
